My current profession of traveling salesman required lots of daily trips in the car. Half of the day I spend sitting in the car, driving to see existing, but also prospective customers. I think that my driving habits have become a source of occupational overuse syndrome. My symptoms must be caused by my driving posture. By my getting in, and out-off the car, always in a hurry. I experience sharp pain in my groin, while I am a driver in the car. Strange, as it may sound, it is different from being a passenger in the car. Similar pain I also experience if I sit on a plush sofa. The clue to that is that gluteus muscles will stretch and flatten specially on soft surfaces than on hard surfaces. It is an annoying problem that I have lived with for about 10 years now. Thinking of pain and how to get a more comfortable posture in the car is quite distracting from my other important tasks of the day. Two major bad habits I am aware of but unable to change. It is sitting slumped in front of the wheel and frequently reaching to the back seat to grab my briefcase and other papers. As every salesman should be aware of, the professional success depends on the positive state mind. The pain takes it all away. I can only think of athletes who experience similar pains, while they have to continue with their competitions. Tennis elbow is an example of sport overuse tennis syndrome, when wrong technique or to technique of hitting the ball is used. I am trying to figure out on my own, how to compensate the overuse and find some corrective exercises. I have found few pain relieving exercises and climbing of stairs is one.
